Textiles - GCSE Art Textiles Study Guide for Students

Moving from DT Textiles to Art Textiles? This 38 page resource guides GCSE Art Textiles students through a component of work. The theme here is Natural Forms and students are encouraged to collect primary source evidence before using a wide range of textiles related techniques in the development of their work. The support document ensures that students address the four Assessment Objectives and are reflective in the way that they progress their work. Students can either use the resource as a work book, adding information to it, or use it as a guide which they (and the teacher) can expand upon. This is a useful support document for DT textiles teachers who have suddenly found themselves having to deliver Art Textiles because DT textiles has been scrapped! Also a great STEAM resource.

Do you want to show students how Art education relates to the real world? This resource might help. Firstly you get 2 different schemes of work (2 different formats) which encourage students to engage in the built environment through drawing and mixed media work. Students get to learn about the rules of perspective through activities that have them recording built structures. They are then challenged to develop their own ideas using their new found 3D drawing skills. They are also engaged in the development of relief work with an architectural theme using cut card. The two schemes are provided as PDFs. Support is also provided through 7 demonstration videos. These cover the following. 2 videos on One Point Perspective An Introduction to 2 Point Perspective Draw Steps using Two Point Perspective Draw a House using Two Point Perspective 3 Point Perspective (Aerial Perspective) Relief Art using Card. Also included is slideshow of 100 architectural images for inspiration. We have included part of one of the videos in the preview section. All videos are presented by Mael Matthews, experienced Art teacher, Head of Department, Senior Art examiner, author and artists in his own right. We hope that this resource really help student see the importance of artistic skills in the world today … and might even help them decide on a future career in architecture! This resource is suitable for students aged 11 to 16.

Art Video Demonstration. Draw steps in perspective

This six minute long video provides clear demonstrations of how to draw steps in perspective. Two drawing demos show steps being drawn first from the front and then from an angle. A great resource to clearly show students how to build up three dimensional drawings using guide lines. Really useful not only as an initial demo, but also to play on loop whilst students work, so that they can glance up and remind themselves of the techniques. This video resource has no narration - it is designed as visual support which the teacher can talk over the top of if necessary, however that is not necessary because it is self explanatory. The visuals are accompanied by background music.
